Heidi von Palleske

Heidi von Palleske is an honours graduate of the George Brown College Theatre Programme in Toronto. Her starring role in 1993’s Ramona won her a best actress award at the Spanish International Film Festival and the critic`s choice award at the Montreal Film Festival. In addition to acting, she has written and hosted a radio program for Talk 640. A published poet, von Palleske won the H. R. Percy award for best novel manuscript in Eastern Canada, the Toronto Short Story Competition, a Toronto Arts Council award and an Ontario Arts Council award for her fiction writing. She has also written for television and the stage.

 

Heidi was a co-founder of CVAV (Canadian Voices of Asbestos Victims) She was a key player in banning the exportation of asbestos to third world counties. An independent documentary film, Canary In The Mine, chronicled her battle. It has been shown at Environmental film festivals.

 

Heidi is the founder and Editor in Cheif of this small press that focuses on original and fierce voices, crying out in the dark to make a mark on humanity and culture. Smart House Books publishes mostly film industry professionals, writing literary fiction and creative memoirs. These books are confessional and experiential, walking a delicate line between fiction and reality.
